His music is legend. I saw him perform at Texas Station in Las Vegas on April 11, 2008. Despite a stroke, he’s just as good today as he was in the early 1970s when the theme song to SHAFT took him to the top of the charts. He’s among the great ones.

I’m glad I met Taj. I needed someone who loved Las Vegas to show me why it’s great, because it’s very hard to get off of the tourist trail in Vegas.

He showed me Chinatown, which looks like it is loaded with great restaurants (next time). It was cool, but then he showed me something even better. Twin Lakes Park. Truly an object lesson in market research.

His head is full of local Vegas lore, so I can definitely see why has a local guide badge at 43places. He truly loves his adopted home town. It made my trip that much better.

He came to visit Las Vegas with his wife and their little one. I gave him the nickel tour. I was not surprised to see him wearing a SOX cap, but his speaking to the baby in latin was priceless. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the Sipes family, and only wish we had more time to spend together.
